A Work In Progress first appeared at Eye Lounge in 2011 and later was placed in the 2011 Arizona Biennial at the Tucson Museum of Art. It took shape to embody a moment I observed between an elderly couple precariously crossing a street one day. Their rapport, mixed with the fragility of the moment was rich. The title describes their labor of endurance and a general metaphor for life. The assemblage would later be deconstructed and developed into the separate works Blue Woman and Autumn: Reclining Nude with Lead Veil as I gained confidence with my own sculptural aesthetics. The original was indebted to assemblage masters Edward and Nancy Kienholz.
